Worth seeing. Vintgar gorge.
A feast for the eyes at the heart of Slovenia
Vintgar gorge is a dream destination. Mystically beautiful, full of energy, and drenched in peace.
Nature puts on a magnificent display of power in Vintgar gorge. The wild Radovna river thunderously winds its way between the majestic, vertical walls of Mt Hom and Mt Boršt. Here and there, it crashes against the craggy rocks. Sunbeams shine through the rock formations and onto the crystal-clear water, which sparkles like an emerald in the soft light.
Unique, age-old natural heritage
The rapids, stream pools, and rocks tell a millennia-old story. The story of the rushing wild river that carved its way through the rock to form the gorge that, in places, reaches 300 metres deep. This natural spectacle was blissfully hidden for many years. A stroke of luck led Jakob Žumer, the mayor of the nearby town of Gorje, and Benedikt Lergetporer, a cartographer and photographer, to discover it in 1891. They were so captivated by the wonder-rich gorge that they decided to make it accessible to all. Two years later, the time had arrived: The gorge was opened on 26 August 1883.
A dream spot at the heart of Slovenia
Vintgar gorge is located only around four kilometres away from Bled. Early in the morning, its doors open. A mystical stillness hangs in the air. The mist slowly begins to lift. Step by step, over wooden bridges and through tunnels, you drift deeper into this unique gorge that reveals wonders of nature both great and small. One of these is Šum waterfall, the highest in Slovenia. The turquoise waters plunge 13 metres into the depths. The shore of the pool at its base is graced with the enchanting greenery of rare plants.
