When the first snowflakes fall in December and Mt Cima del Prete/Wilder Pfaff, Mt Cima di Malavalle/Sonklarspitze, and Mt Cima Libera/Wilder Freiger are nestled under a thick blanket of snow, the joy of winter fills the Ratschings three-valley area. While the winter sun illuminates the peaks of the Stubai Alps and Alpi Sarentine/Sarntal Alps, locals and guests alike embark on new adventures. The Racines-Giovo/Ratschings-Jaufen ski area is one of the best in the Alps when it comes to guaranteed snow.

From December to April, skiers and snowboarders who prefer mountain peace to the hubbub of the major ski areas weave their way down the slopes here. On your car-free holiday, comfortable shuttle buses bring you from your accommodation directly to the modern valley station, where you’ll find a ski rental and ski storage. Glide gently upwards in the eight-seater cable car. Each metre of elevation gained opens up new spectacular views of the South Tyrolean mountains. Once you reach the mountain station, other lifts transport you up to around 2,150 metres above sea level. The awe-worthy panorama, short waiting times at the lifts, and wide slopes help a sense of peace blossom within you. The small yet excellent ski area has some 28 kilometres of ski slopes, with something for every ability level, a fun park for freestylers, and a toboggan run. If you’d prefer to glide gently through nature, the 16-kilometre-long Mt Piatto/Platschjoch high-altitude panoramic cross-country skiing trail is just waiting to enchant you. It leads you over sun-blessed slopes and through dense spruce forests surrounded by wonder-rich mountain scenery.

The majestic mountain peaks invite you to enjoy a wealth of ski tours, including 15 selected premium ski tours with an ascent time between 2 and 4.5 hours. The car parks at the starting points, information boards, and test stations for avalanche transceivers give the tours an additional touch of excellence.
