The Pearl

Sauris, the jewel of Carnia! Sauris is the highest mountain community in the Region Friaul Julish Venetia. The settlement dates back to the 13th century. Today Sauris is a modern and highly attractive holiday town that has succeeded in offering a remarkable range of activities and attractions to suit the tastes of any guest, from the nature lover to those seeking challenges in sport. The Sport and Wellness Centre is as important for visitors as the appealing landscape with its numerous opportunities for walking, touring, great days out and outdoor fun. The favourite activities of summer guests are Alpine pasture hiking, mountain biking and canoeing, windsurfing and angling. Winter brings not only downhill skiing, but also superb panorama ski touring, fabulous opportunities for snowshoeing or the great experience of the Sun Cross-country Skiing Race. The culinary delights of this region are also a major attraction; Sauris mountain ham is an unequalled delight while the fresh beer from the town brewery is an elixir.

Soft mobility connections

Sparing environment and nerves with public transport! Sauris can be reached with public transport from either Udine or Villach. Regular bus services are available in summer and winter throughout the Carnia region and additional shuttle bus services are operated in the main holiday seasons.

Soft mobility in the pearl

This entire area is simply a paradise for people who love an active holiday! In Sauris you have every opportunity to participate in the soft mobile sports including walking and cycling, mountain biking, climbing, riding and water sports. Winter is a superb season in Sauris with its beautiful skiing area, cross-country skiing tracks and winter hiking tracks.

Special soft mobility services

Get to know different cultures and unspoiled nature! Sauris lies directly on the celebrated Via Alpina hiking route - the so-called “Yellow Route”. This Yellow Route leads the hiker up to heights of 3000 m, from the Adriatic coast to the high Alpine pastures of the Allgäu. A caleidoscope of different cultures and nature in its pristine state can be encountered here in a glorious experience. Take part in an Alpine crossing with all its wonderful contrasts and be sure to visit Sauris. Further information at www.via-alpina.com.
